Hey Sugar, Hey

"The farther backward you can look, the farther forward you can see." - Winston Churchill

Hello, friends.  Long time no see, I know.

How are you? how is the weather where you are?

Hello? Who still follows me here?

During the Middle Ages people believed that dragons inhabit the Alps. Loud noises could be heard, sounds of cracking and bursting. Today, we know that these sounds are caused by moving glaciers.

do we? do we now? it could be dragons, you can’t prove that.

Omigoshthisiskindalastminute but I am having a sale and giveaway!  Both because I still have some surplus art books on hand before I make my next order, and because I love you guys so much.

So here’s the deal:

  1. Like or share this post, and/or…
  2. Like my slowly-yet-steadily-being-refurbished Facebook fan page!  It’s coming along.
  3. Feel free to share the post more than once- I’m feeling generous.
  4. Spread the word, if you’re the gambling sort, until the 16th
  5. After the 16th I will randomly draw five winners from the entrants, each of whom will get signed art books, including a personalized sketch of their choice on the inside cover!
  6. I’m going to try to ship the art books out by the 21st, allowing for domestic arrival by Christmas Day.
  7. If you do not observe Christmas, I will take my sweet time with your sketch and it will be awesome.

I never have time to do sketches for people outside of conventions, so I’m trying to change that up a bit- we’ll see if I stress myself out in the process, but it’s worth it. :)

Best of luck, everyone!

I wish I had gotten in on this before the day after the contest ended, I love her artwork, and to have her book with a personal sketch would be awesome. Le sigh, guess I’ll have to keep a tighter eye out for hopefully happening future giveaways.

This is a bridge in Paris. You hang locks on it with the name of you & your boyfriend/girlfriend/best-friend then throw the key into the river. So even though the friend/relationship may end, you can’t remove the lock. It stays there forever, as relevance to someone once a part of your life.
i’ve seen this picture a million times, i’m putting it on my bucket list to write my name & tumblr on a lock & proudly throw that key. you & me till the end baby.

I have to this when I go there…. OH MY GODDDDDD!!!!

Paris (and Florence) specifically hire people to cut the locks off once a month and get rid of them, and then drag the river of the keys so as to not have them polluted. Not so romantic now.

Hello;

you may have noticed my posts here are slowly disappearing.  This is because for all intents and purposes this blog is on a hiatus.  I will not be posting here for the foreseeable future, for several reasons. Thank you for following me for as long as you did, and perhaps I will see you again in the interwebs.

This is my great-grandfather Angus Campbell, who signed up with the 151st Calgary battalion in 1915, trained, then transferred to the 50th Canadian regiment when he was shipped out to Europe in 1916.  He fought in the battles at Passchendaele and the battles of Amiens, specifically at the advance on Vimy Ridge, where he caught a german bullet in the hand, leading to his honourable discharge and return home, where most of his shrapnel-ridden hand was amputated. I think it’s interesting for many other reasons but here are some fun facts about my great grandpa: he was the first son of two scottish immigrants, with three younger brothers who didn’t have to sign up because he did, he was married with two children when he shipped out, his great talent in the world was in playing the fiddle and that was something he lost when all of his first and most of his second and third fingers had to be amputated, he was a trained steam engineer before he came back and then had to become a coal miner and farmer after the amputations which meant the loss of his skilled career, but still went on to have another six children with his German-born wife (that must have sucked post WWI),  I admire him very very much.

It’s a hazard to living in the tundra. My dog sled team was attacked by a flying bear just last week.

Me: sick as a dog but happy as a clam. Got my package from Rhi today! It was delicious and cozy. I have the best friends EVER.

Internet bffls!

Shelby and I have known each other for ten-odd years, so I made her a scarf and sent her some non perishable Canadian delicacies.
